Mumbai: Actor Salman Khan, who was granted bail by the Jodhpur bench of Rajasthan High Court on Friday in the Chinkara poaching case, reached home in Mumbai later in the day.
Speaking to the media, the actor, who spent a week in the Jodhpur jail, said he believed in destiny.
“I am very thankful to my fans who prayed for me. I am not guilty. I want to hold my head high and not hang it in shame,” said Salman.
Salman, who flew to Mumbai in a chartered plane after his release, reportedly broke down into tears when he heard the news.
When asked how he utilised his time in jail, Salman said, “I used to paint inside the Jodhpur Central Jail I will auction all the paintings that I made in jail.”
tating that his family was his strength and his support system, he said, "I cried on the Rakhee day. It was tough for me.”
Salman has been in Jodhpur Central Jail for the past seven days after a sessions court upheld his five-year jail term in the 1998 Chinkara poaching case.
The actor also took time off to talk and support colleague and actor Sanjay Dutt who was released on bail from Pune’s Yerwada Jail last week.
“I don’t want Sanjay Dutt to go to jail,” Salman said.
While it was a moment of celebration for Salman and his family, animal rights activists say the actor's got away lightly.
"Its absolutely appalling. This is not even his first conviction. The court hasn’t considered that he has four other cases against him. He has beaten co-stars, run over five people, bribed witnesses, he's been shown on TV holding a gun in his hand. Isn’t he a menace to society?" animal Rights' activist Maneka Gandhi said on hearing the news of the actor’s bail.
But Salman's legal battles aren't over yet. The revision petition challenging his conviction will come up for hearing in the Rajasthan High Court on October 24.
