Some years back, the magic of signature henna treatments along with seductive body marking /body piercing used to be adored by brides at celebrity weddings. However, of late, the elite/upmarket Indian males are getting branded by tattoos/scarifications/body piercing on each and every part of their bodies, from the face to the genitalia. Such practices, which today are the latest fashion fads of the gen-Y, were an integral part of a deeply symbolic, centuries-old tradition around the world among tribal communities. Interest in tattooing and body piercing has surged during the past ten years, spawning a new aesthetic of personal appearance for umpteen young people.

Blame it on the movies, the showbiz world, the photographic shoots, or the global fashion/ramp shows, body marking with tattoos are “in”. Indeed, a lot of it has already been featured in the media. In the ancient, Celtic times, Polynesian culture, tattooing used to signify one's ancestors, family, or something else equally as personal. Professional tattoo artists charge more because they use electrically powered, vertical, vibrating instruments to inject the tattoo pigment, while maintaining safety and sterility precautions. Shootout At Lokhandwala ,a film to watch

In recent times, there are hot gossips regarding Shootout At Lokhandwala.

We review only select movies in these columns. We reviewed 300 and left out run of the mill pictures like Ta Ra Rum Pum despite their high profile star casts. A movie has to be worthy of your attention and time. It is sad that the majority of the flicks that have hit the screens in the last month or two do not fit the bill. So what makes Shootout at Lokhandwala stand out?

Primarily, three points:

The movie is based on a true story. (This, however, does not mean that the entire movie is a true story. The incident did take place but the movie is essentially a ‘filmi’ version of the episode).

The movie has a strong Chandigarh connection in Maya bhai, the main protagonist. Maya’s character is based on the real life Mayas Dolas, a young engineering graduate who hailed from Pinjore, near here.

Hot gossips suggests movie sends out a strong message, which may sound a trifle outdated to the majority of the youth today: You may shake a leg here and there, indulge in a little mumbo-jumbo on your own but when it comes to watching your interests, nobody does it better than your parents.

Shootout is directed by Apoorva Lakhia -- a new age director willing to experiment with new genres and new methods of story-telling. Lakhia has chosen to limit the movie to two hours and to his credit he manages to retain his grip over the plot. The central theme remains in focus over the racy two hours. Secondly, Lakhia has successfully sidetracked from taking any sides in what essentially is a cops versus gangsters affair. The movie strives to simply present each side of the story instead of passing any judgements.

Shootout revolves around an encounter between a gang of mobsters and the Mumbai police that took place in the summer of 1991. The controversial incident is stated to be the biggest of its kind to be covered live on national television. Lakhia pieces together the story using the flashback technique.

The movie unfolds with ACP AA Khan (played by Sanjay Dutt), inspectors Kaviraj Patil (Suniel Shetty) and Javed Shaikh (Arbaaz Khan) of the Mumbai Police ATS (a special anti-terrorism squad modeled on the LAPD SWAT) recounting the incidents leading up to the encounter, to private prosecutor Dhingra (played by Amitabh Bachhan). Incidentally, the real life ACP AK Khan, who lead the squad in the real encounter also figures in the movie playing the role of Police Commissioner, Mumbai Police.

On the gangsters side, the lead roles are essayed by Vivek Oberoi (Maya), Tushar Kapur(Maya’s side kick Dilip Buwa) and their three colleagues.

The movie successfully delves into the lives and minds of cops and the gangsters. Lakhia has portrayed the shenanigans of the cops versus gangsters game highlighting the alleged politicians-criminals-police nexus. The film shows the excesses committed by the gangsters in running their extortion rackets. It also depicts the alleged association between the criminals and the police (The D-company chief, based in Dubai at that time, is shown calling up ACP Khan to give him the exact address of the Lokhandwala flat where the trigger happy Maya and his gang members are waiting for builder Wadhwani).

The movie fails largely due to the demands of commercialism. Lakhia and Sanjay Gupta (the producer) has kept the script tight. However, a series of song and dance sequences appear totally out of place. A rap number ‘Aye Ganpat' sung by Mika sounds good.

The movie is full of noise, blood, violence, and guns. In this, Lakhia has tried to walk the territory charted out by Quentin Tarantino with Reservoir Dogs. Sadly, here he fails miserably. Shootout is a loud film all through. Blame it on commercialism, but Lakhia has failed to realize the importance of an interplay between silence and sound. Perhaps, a cue from ‘Satya’ or ‘Parinda’ could have helped.

Among the actors, Vivek Oberoi looks convincing. Maya comes across as sinister, ruthless, fearless and tempestuous. Whereas Rohit Roy (Fattu), Shabbir Ahluwalia( RC) and Aditya Lakhia (Doubling) are good, Tusshar Kapoor looks out of place. You cannot point anything really wrong with Sanjay Dutt’s performace, but one gets a feeling he could have looked better playing a gang leader instead of a cop.

Sunil Shetty looks solid. Amitabh Bachhan, however, seems to be spreading himself too thin with a series of releases one after the other. Bachhan disappoints in Shootout.

The female actors have little to do in the movie. Amrita Singh (as Maya’s mom) looks good. Dia Mirza does not sound like a journalist. Neha Dhupia and Arti Chhabria are disappointing.

Our verdict: Watchable, but only once. And that too if you have time to spare. Hot gossips is on indicating that the director is making all efforts to keep the film multifaced, thereby spoiling the main theme of the film.

Big Ceremony of Bollywood at Ganesh Chaturthi

Well, Bollywood big guns are now becoming addicted to worships. At least the excitement at Ganesh Chaturthi gives alike picture.
ord Ganesha is one God to whom Bollywood personalities confide to in their thick and thins. And celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi seemed to be in full swing. Decorating Ganesha is the best part of this celebration. It’s believed that one’s wish is fulfilled once it is on the ear of Ganeshji.

Nana Patekar is one actor who religiously celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi every year. He is personally involved in all decorations and Poojas done for Ganeshji at his place. Nana also allows common people to visit his home and take Ganeshji’s Darshan.

Salman Khan and his family also celebrate Ganeshostav. The Khan family had brought home Ganesh idol for one and a half days. In the above picture Salman with his step mom Helen and Nephew on his shoulders is dancing during the procession before immersing the Ganesh Idol into the sea.

The Kapoors bring Ganeshji’s idol in RK Studio each year. Also, Jeetendra and Rakhi Sawant celebrate the festival religiously every year. Riteish Deshmukh took Ganeshji’s idol along when he went to visit Cancer Patients during a special screening of Dhamaal organized for them.

Ganeshji is highly respected by the film industry. Looking at the lavish celebrations we can surely say that Bollywood takes pride to believe in oneness of God.

Sex icon of Bollywood -Rakhi Sawant and Abhisekh Bacchan have roped in as a couple to participate in " Nach Baliye - 3'', the dance reality show to be telecast on Star Plus from the coming week.

In an exclusive interview, Rakhi speaks her excitement for joining this competition along with Abhsisekh as it will need a lot of capabilities to go through in this type of events.

Rani's latest buzz

A report in a section of over-imaginative press suggests that Rani is quitting movies after Laaga Chunari Mein Daag to get married.

Laughs a source very close to Rani, "The fact is, Rani has signed a new film and is already shooting for it. The film is Kunal Kohli's untitled venture which brings the Hum Tum pair Saif and Rani together again. Rani has been shooting for the last two weeks and is totally immersed in the project. She has neither the time nor the inclination to get married or to issue periodical denials about the spurt of lies that keep appearing in the tabloids about her."

Continues the source, "Rani is also on the verge of signing a couple of more projects. After Laaga Chunari Mein Daag where she has one of the toughest author-backed roles of her career as a Brahmin girl who compromises with her morals to support her family, Rani plays an old- fashioned golden-hearted prostitute in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya." According Sanjay Bhansali, Rani's turn as the golden-hearted tart is so ebullient and enchanting; Rani is likely to prove the scene-stealer of the show.

As for marriage, Rani has no man in her life right now. "Rani is too much into her work to think about marriage. She's also getting her two new homes ready and will be moving in soon. One of those places has wrongly been perceived as her love nest. It’s strictly an office to meet producers, trade people and journalists. With her family home now filled with the pitter-patter of her niece's feet, Rani didn't want to bring her work into her home."

Madhuri Dixit with Konkana

Konkona Sen Sharma and stage fright don't go together. But when the actress heard that she had to dance with the nimble -footed Madhuri Dixit in "Aaja Nachle", she nearly ran away.

"It was scary," laughed Konkona.

Directed by Pradeep Sarkar of "Parineeta" fame, the film revolves around an ageing actress, played by Madhuri, and how she gets friendly with a young actress while working in a play and shares her secrets with her.

"Sharing acting space with Madhuri didn't make me that nervous. I knew I could manage to hold my own in that department. But one has to be totally crazy to even attempt to match dance steps with Madhuri. I thought I'd faint when I had to dance with her," Konkona told IANS.

"Fortunately, our choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant gave me steps that didn't make me look foolish in front of Madhuri. In fact, the film requires unequal dancing between Madhuri and the rest of us in the cast," she added.

Konkona's last release "Metro" earned her rave reviews and she is still basking in the glory.

"I just loved meeting Anurag Basu for the narration. He kept getting all the characters' names confused. It was hilarious but I liked his honesty, passion...and maturity."

Aag and Darling

Mumbai, Aug 29 (IANS) Ram Gopal Varma is unfazed by scepticism that his two directorial venture “Aag” and “Darling” are releasing back to back.

“Do you mean to say people look at the director’s name in the credits before seeing a film? How does it matter who directed ‘Aag’ and ‘Darling’ as long as audiences find the films interesting enough?” asks Varma.

“Aag” will hit the screens Friday, while “Darling will follow suit the week after.

“‘Darling’ would do just as well or just as badly even if it was released long after ‘Aag’. The two films belong to two different genres and don’t tread into each other’s territories at all. So I’m not the least apprehensive.

“Both the films have their own destiny. And it wouldn’t have mattered even if they released on the same day.

Amitabh miser on fans!!!!!!

A huge moment was excitement was created on Wednesday at the famous Jalsa residence of the Bachchans. Ankur Singh, who claimed himself as Bacchan's ardent fan forced himself to Amitabh's residence and demanded huge amount to money to purchase sophisticated car . When his wish was not fulfilled, he tried to commit suicide.
An unofficial source claimed " “I was passing by Big B’s bungalow when I noticed a young man creating a scene at the gate. He was demanding money to buy a car from Big B and after some time drank something from a bottle and tried committing suicide. He was taken away by the police in an unconscious state.”

Ankur Singh, a 27-year-old man, travelled all the way from Kolkata to meet his idol Amitabh Bachchan. On August 25, he landed up at Big B’s bungalow and started arguing with the watchman. He said he was a big fan of Amitabh Bachchan and wanted to meet him. The watchman ignored his plea, thinking he was just another fan, but Ankur didn’t budge. The helpless watchman took the message across to Big B and he was asked to get the fan in, as informed by the Senior Inspector, Pradeep Shinde of Juhu Police Station.

Big B met Ankur Singh that morning and interacted with him. Bachchan asked the man to return to his hometown and before he was sent off, told his watchman to hand over Rs. 5000 in cash to Ankur as he had travelled from far-off Kolkata. Ankur happily accepted the money and left Jalsa only to return soon after.

Says Inspector Shinde, “On August 29, around 2 pm, Ankur returned to Jalsa claiming that he wanted to meet Mr Bachchan. The guards refused to let him in as Mr. Bachchan was not at home. He began to create a scene saying, ‘Agar iss janam mein Bachchan saab ka dost na ban paya toh agle janam mein hi sahi’ (If I can’t be Bachchansaab’s friend in this lifetime, I’ll try in the next) and drank half a bottle of phenyl outside his gate. He wanted a car as a gift from Mr. Bachchan which he was rightly refused.”

Big B spoke to the cops immediately after the incident. When contacted Amitabh Bachchan, confirmed the news, saying, “I believe this incident took place at Jalsa but I was not in the house yesterday. The police in Juhu have taken charge of the case.”

Abhishek who was to shoot at the ND Studios in Karjat reached late and was heard telling his associates, “There is a lot of tension back home. Some guy has tried committing suicide after drinking phenyl. I have been receiving calls from home and am worried.”

Ankur Singh was immediately admitted to the Cooper Hospital by the Juhu Police. “We have charged him with the attempt to committing suicide. His condition is improving at Cooper Hospital and the moment his he gets better, we’ll arrest him,” declares Pradeep Shinde.

The producers and Shilpa’s team are having secret talks on the 23rd Bond movie with Daniel Craig as Bond. Sources have been quoted saying, “Shilpa is having secret talks with the top brass who are working on the next movie. As far as they are concerned, she has it all — she is beautiful, feisty

and a great actress. But they also want someone who is a big star…which Shilpa is…She has a huge following in Bollywood as well as a number of fans in the Western world - especially in Britain - so she will be great for box office sales.” While the 22nd bond movie is being shot with Craig, script writers are already working on the 23rd in the bond series. So let us wait and watch if Shilpa makes it in the series.

Is Preity Zinta getting married to Ness Wadia?

August 18 : The latest gossip doing the rounds is that Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is set to tie the knot with Ness Wadia, the great grandson of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

The award winning Indian actress started dating Ness, son of Bombay Dyeing owners Nusli and Maureen Wadia, in February 2005, reports the Daily Times.

The couple's relationship went through a bad patch earlier this year aftter singer Suchitra Krishnamurthy blamed Preity for her divorce with Shekhar Kapur.

Krishnamurthy alleged that the actress was having an affair with her director husband.

The news of the wedding has come after several reports of cold vibes between Zinta and Wadia's mother Maureen had been circulated by the media.
